A Brief Introduction to Shizuoka Prefecture
Shizuoka Prefecture, the prefecture in which Mt. Fuji is located, is in the approximate geographical center of Japan. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the south and the mountainous prefectures of Yamanashi and Nagano to the north. To the east is Kanagawa Prefecture, which is the prefecture bordering the capital, Tokyo. Access to the capital is good, the trip by Shinkansen taking as little as one hour, while in 2009 the opening of Mt Fuji Shizuoka Airport has made the area even easier to access.
